Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024

November 29, 2024 · Australian Parliament — Parliamentary Education Office · Read the original ↗

Australia passed the world's first national law requiring social-media platforms to take reasonable steps to keep children under 16 off their services — passed November 29, 2024, taking effect December 10, 2025. A country looked at the same evidence and set a floor.

The Look Up read
Policy is no longer asking whether childhood and feeds collide — it's setting ages. The debate has moved from 'is it harmful?' to 'what do we do?'
The Look Up View: AGREE
The Look Up view
